At the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium held this week in Cambridge, one big focus was on the changing roles of IT professionals in the business world. In short, the experts are saying — and I agree — that successful IT careers hinge on an ability to be business-minded. Ironically, as you’ll note in this InformationWeek report of the event, the traditional business executive at the same time is getting a whole lot more IT-minded.…future CIOs will need to proactively pursue career moves into the business and operations side in order to get hands-on-experience in what makes a company tick. Technologists aren’t the only ones expanding their horizons. There are more business people with technology skills moving up the ladder as well.
