Even spammers need a business model

As you may know, Ipswitch periodically dips a long-handled ladle into the dark heart of the global stew of junk email and pulls up a core sample for analysis. In the most recent installment of our Spamometer, our spam spotters in the UK found that not only is spam increasing as a share of all email – up to 70% – but also that the quality of spam is getting leaner and meaner. Spam about financial matters and phishing attacks hit the top five for the first time at number two with 19% of our spample. Pornography and medication spam swapped first and third places, probably a reflection of the aging baby boomer demographic.
